The successful candidate will
- Assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and safely manage patients presenting with urgent, undifferentiated illness and minor injury within the Urgent Treatment Centres.
- Deliver high-quality urgent primary care across both Poole and Bournemouth Urgent Treatment Centres, supporting service resilience and equitable patient access.
- Provide senior clinical decision-making, ensuring safe, effective and timely management of patients in accordance with national and local clinical guidance.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including Advanced Practitioners, Nursing staff and Allied Health Professionals, to deliver coordinated patient-centred care.
- Determine the most appropriate onward management for patients, including discharge with advice, referral to community or primary care services, or escalation to secondary care where clinically indicated.
- Support the avoidance of unnecessary Emergency Department attendances and hospital admissions by managing appropriate patients within the Urgent Treatment Centre.
- Contribute to maintaining patient flow through timely assessment, treatment and discharge planning.
- Participate in clinical governance activities including audit, quality improvement, incident investigation and learning.
- Work flexibly across both Urgent Treatment Centre sites to meet service demands and support operational resilience.
At University Hospitals Dorset (UHD), we are transforming how urgent, emergency and planned care is delivered across our two main hospital sites.
As part of our clinical services review, Royal Bournemouth Hospital will become the Trust's dedicated emergency care site, including the relocation of the Poole Emergency Department. Poole Hospital will increasingly focus on elective and planned care, alongside the development of a 24/7 Urgent Treatment Centre.

Education, Qualifications and Special Training
Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a Licence to Practise.
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice or CESR equivalent.
- MRCGP or equivalent recognised qualification.
Desirable
- Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners (FRCGP).
- Additional postgraduate qualification relevant to Urgent or Emergency Care
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Good personal and interpersonal skills
- Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients in the UTC
- Understanding and commitment to clinical governance issues
Desirable
- Minor injury management qualification or equivalent experience.
- Extended skills in musculoskeletal medicine, dermatology, ENT, ophthalmology or women's health.
- Ability to interpret plain radiographs
