Job description

An opportunity for a 12 month fix term Trust Grade Doctor (ST3+) in General Surgery There are 2 dedicated surgical wards, comprising 50 inpatient beds...

  • Participate in delivery of out-patient, diagnostic and inpatient services as directed by consultant
  • Participate in 1:10 on call rota at Registrar level. All rotas are compliant with EWTD.
  • Participate in ward rounds
  • Undertake other clinical duties as directed by the consultant
  • Attend and perform surgery as required and directed by the consultant
  • Attend and manage out-patient clinics as required

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council
  • Primary medical qualification

Desirable

  • Evidence of academic distinction, eg Prizes, Awards
  • PG qualifications: MSc or PhD
  • MRCS examination by date of appointment.

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Completed Core Surgical Training (2 years) or equivalent
  • 6 months of relevant experience within the National Health Service

Desirable

  • Able to perform Laparoscopic appendicectomy under supervision
  • Able to perform open inguinal hernia repair under supervision

Experience in Training, Audit and Research

Essential

  • ATLS provider course
  • BSS Course or equivalent

Desirable

  • Evidence of contribution to Audit/Research
  • Evidence of contribution to teaching
  • CCrISP Course
  • Basic Laparoscopic Course or equivalent

Personal qualities

Essential

  • Commitment to providing compassionate patient care and excellent patient experience.
  • Approachable.
  • Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm.
  • Innovative, positive attitude.
