We're excited to welcome a Therapy Assistant (Band 3) into our friendly, well-established team in the Reading area. The role is full time, however we'...
To deliver patient facing rehabilitation programmes as guided by therapists. Examples include:
- exercise programmes
- cognitive and visual rehabilitation
- speech and language exercises
- supporting patients to self-monitor blood pressure
- mindfulness
- equipment reviews
- support nursing colleagues with completion of stroke reviews
Other non-patient facing tasks include
- preparation of paperwork for patients referred to the team
- ordering equipment / collecting from equipment stores
- calling patients to book / change appointments
- supporting with audits
- liaison and referrals to other services
- motivating patients to participate in rehabilitation programmes and liaise with relevant professionals within the team and in wider services such as GP practices, Social Services and the Stroke Association

Education, qualifications or training
Essential
- GCSE level C or equivalent in English
- Willing and able to undertake the Trust Care Certificate
Desirable
- Human Biology
- IT
- NVQ 2 or equivalent
Previous Experience
Essential
- Previous reliable employment
- Experience in administrative duties, +/- use of computer
- Experience of working as a member of a team.
- Experience of working under direction
Desirable
- Experience in caring environment
- Experience in working in a community setting
- Experience working with the public
- Previous experience in NHS therapy service
- Experience of liaising with Social Care in the UK
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Essential
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the role of the therapy and/or rehabilitation
- Good written and spoken English
- Understand the importance of confidentiality, dignity and privacy
- Excellent interpersonal skills:
- Able to listen wello Able to demonstrate empathy with patients, carers and colleagues
- Able to communicate effectively, particularly where barriers to understanding exist
- Able to work effectively under supervision as part of a team
- Able to reflect on practice with peers/clinical supervisor
- Willing / able to undertake Development Programme or equivalent / relevant training

- Able to manage emotional consequences of working with patients with a range of communication disorders and disabilities

- An awareness of neurological conditions

Additional Requirements

- Occupational Health Clearance
- DBS clearance
- Able to travel efficiently between multiple sites
- UK driving license holder
