The Operating Department Support Worker provides assistance to registered professionals within the perioperative care setting in General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology & Emergency Services carrying out patient care under the direction of a trained theatre practitioner, ensuring that a high standard of care is maintained.
Through their close contact with the patient, the Operating Department Support Worker plays an important part in meeting the needs of the patients before; during and following surgical or anaesthetic procedures.
Priority will be given to colleagues identified as at risk through the Trust's redeployment process.
Qualifications
Essential: - Maths and English skills equivalent to Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy; - NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Operating Department Support or Health-related subject
Desirable: - Completion of Care Certificate
Experience
Essential: - Evidence of ability to work using own initiative and under minimal supervision; - Experience in a healthcare environment or Operating Theatres
Desirable: - Commitment to lifelong learning
Skills
Essential
- Ability to communicate clearly in English in writing, via IT, verbally and using the telephone
- Ability to cope well with change
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
Desirable: - Ability to report problems and faults
Communication
Essential: - Good written communication skills
