Theatre Porter

Under supervision the post holder is responsible for carrying out assigned tasks as part of the non clinical team in support of registered practitioners, and to undertake some aspects of care provision under supervision. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of service users, always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights, through the adoption of persons centred care principles within the perioperative environment of Main Theatres and Sunderland Daycase Theatres

To assist the qualified staff in providing perioperative care to patients by undertaking a range of support duties, working within the team of theatre porters providing essential assistance to the department.

The role is very physically demanding with lots of moving and handling of various weight and equipment of all sizes. The expectation is that staff are able to undertake all duties as described in this job description.

Provides support and assistance to the theatre teams by undertaking these essential duties:

Transferring patients to and from the department (pre and post surgery on trollies and patient beds)

Ensuring the histological specimens are transported safely in accordance to trust procedures to the pathology laboratory.

Safe transfer of blood specimens and arterial blood gases

Maintenance of the theatre scrubex machine, to ensure that the department have stock of theatre scrubs

Flexibility in undertaking duties in both Main Theatres and Sunderland Day case Theatres

Safe transportation of surgical instruments to and from the IHSS collection point

Ensure all clean surgical instruments are placed in correct store rooms within the department

Undertake time critical tasks to meet the demand of the department

Ensure that all equipment, beds, trollies are transported across the department and across the trust in accordance to manual handling guidelines

Lone working will be undertaken in this role- therefore all staff must meet physical ability requirements.
