We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Environmental Health professional to join our Environmental Health Residential Team. This is a rewarding leadership role at the heart of protecting and improving housing conditions, promoting public health and making a positive difference to the lives of residents across Ashfield.
We are looking for a qualified Environmental Health Officer with proven team leadership experience who can inspire, support and develop others while delivering high-quality housing and environmental health services. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team responsible for a wide range of private sector housing functions, including housing standards, HMO regulation, licensing, enforcement, supported housing and public health interventions. You will provide operational leadership, professional expertise and day to day management, ensuring statutory duties are delivered effectively and residents receive an excellent service.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and forward-thinking individual who can drive service improvement, lead on complex investigations and enforcement activity, and build strong relationships with residents, landlords, partner agencies and elected members. You will be confident in making decisions, managing competing priorities and supporting your team to achieve positive outcomes in often challenging circumstances.
Applicants must hold a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent recognised qualification) and possess Environmental Health Registration Board (EHORB/EHRB/) registration or Professional Registration with CIEH. Significant experience within private sector housing and environmental health is essential, together with a strong understanding of housing legislation, HMO regulation and enforcement practice. Previous experience of supervising, mentoring or leading a team is a key requirement.
You will be an excellent communicator with strong customer focus and leadership skills, capable of analysing complex information, resolving problems and providing clear professional guidance.
You will be committed to continuous improvement, maintaining high professional standards and keeping up to date with legislative and technical developments.
This is a demanding but highly rewarding role offering the opportunity to influence service delivery, develop staff, improve housing conditions and make a genuine impact on public health and wellbeing within our communities. No two days are the same, and the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future direction of our Environmental Health Residential service.
