About the recipient
Female and own transport essential.
This role is to support a 30‑year‑old female living in Beverley, who is a mum of four children. She is seeking a support worker to provide a total of 9 hours per week, including cover for one another.
The purpose of this support is to help alleviate unavoidable pressures around the home, particularly during times when tasks build up due to physical limitations. The individual values her independence and likes to take care of things herself; however, due to reduced physical ability and slow movement - particularly down the left side of her body - daily tasks can take longer and sometimes become overwhelming.
There is a risk of falls, which may temporarily increase her need for support, causing household duties to fall behind and accumulate. Support workers will work with her, not take over, to ensure that tasks are completed in a way that maintains her dignity, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
The individual loves animals and has two friendly dogs in the home. Support workers must therefore be comfortable working around pets.
This role is about building a trusting, respectful relationship that promotes independence while providing practical and emotional support when needed.
- Assistance with various domestic tasks (e.g. cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, general household organisation).
- Helping reduce stress within the home environment.
- Support with transport to medical and other appointments.
- Support with school drop-offs and collections.
- Flexible support that adapts during periods of reduced mobility or recovery.
- Shopping.
- Personal care such as assistance getting out of the shower.
About the candidate
- Be motivated, proactive and able to work on their own initiative.
- Be patient, caring and understanding.
- Have good communication skills (clear and effective communication).
- Be able to build a positive relationship with the individual to both encourage and support them.
- Have previous experience caring for an individual with additional needs.
- Be flexible to accommodate the hours of work where necessary.
- Be a team player and able to work effectively alongside another carer.
- Must have use of own car, to transport individual to social activities and appointments.
- Be comfortable with animals to assist with the individual’s dog.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post – Cost to be met by the local authority.
