We are seeking an enthusiastic/ motivated Band 5 Registered Nurse or to join our team on the Intensive Care Unit at the West Cumberland Hospital. The ...

Our busy 6 bedded general ICU unit provides adult intensive care/ high dependency care and post anaesthetic care for elective and emergency patients across a range of medical and surgical specialities including, Renal, Cardiology, Respiratory,Orthopaedic, Neurological and Obstetric patients. Within our ICU we are actively involved in stabilisation and transfer of adult patients requiring more specific intensive care e.g. neurological trauma, burns, spinal injuries, cardiac and hepatic disease. The ICU at WCH also specialises in the stabilisation and delivery of intensive care / high dependency care of paediatric patients, prior to transfer to a specialised Paediatric ICU. The ICU at WCH benefits from our own dedicated Clinical educator, who provides and facilities on the job training alongside co-ordinating further continued professional development for all the ICU nursing team . The unit will provide a 6 week preceptorship period with input and support form our Intensive Care Clinical Educator.

Qualifications

Essential: - Registered nurse with a valid registration

Desirable

  • Foundations in critical care or equivalent.
  • NoECCN Step competences 1 & 2 completed or equivalent.
  • Further relevant post registration development to postgraduate diploma equivalent.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Student nurse in the NHS
  • General nursing in the NHS or equivalent.
  • Continuing professional development with portfolio
  • NMC code of professional conduct.
  • Equality legislation and best practice.

Desirable: - ITU/HDU Nursing experience; - Mentor to pre-registration nursing students.; - Budgetary awareness.; - Critical care

Skills and Aptitudes

Essential

  • Developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, without close supervision
  • Project development skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.

Desirable: - IT skills.; - Immediate Life Support (ILS); - Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS)

Other Requirements

Essential: - Motivation.; - Enthusiasm; - Willing to develop by expansion of the role.; - Flexible approach to working patterns.
