- Acts at all times in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct / Health Professional Council.
- Supervises the work of the nursing / anaesthetic team, ensuring individual programmes of care are formulated according to patient needs and current research/guidelines.
- Delivers planned care safely and effectively taking into account the views of the patient and their relatives.Anticipate and respond to the needs of a wide range of patients (including paediatrics and those with special needs), their relatives or carers if accompanying patient to theatre, in a highly sensitive and empathetic manner.
- Recognise, resolve or take appropriate action in situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of patients and colleagues.
- Recognise the significance of the observations made on the patient's vital signs and use these to develop an initial patient assessment.
- Carry out those activities involved when conducting the comprehensive assessment of a person's nursing requirements to include psychological, physiological, cardiovascular, neurological care and to ensure safe handover of care.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential: - RGN / or ODP with City & Guilds 752, NVQ (ODP) Level 3, or Diploma in Higher Education in Operating department Practice.; - NMC or HPC registration
Desirable: - Evidence of further continued professional development; - MSPP/ENB 998 Teaching/Assessing Qualification.
Experience
Essential: - Specialist requirements; - Experience of teaching students, HCA's and qualified staff
Desirable
- Previous experience as shift/team leader
- Experience in scrub, recovery or anaesthetics. New graduates may be considered depending on the nature of the vacancy
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential
- Ability to communicate with staff at all levels within and outside the Trust
- Ability to communicate with patients (and their relatives or carers) who may have some a range of complex health care issues, and a variety of sensory/communication/physical/mental health/language needs
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal Needs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Planning and organisation skills
Desirable: - Working knowledge of the NHS and structures/procedures; - IT skills; - Sound knowledge of theatre practice and perioperative Issues
