Staff Nurse - Chemotherapy Day Unit

• Administer chemotherapy and other SACT treatments in accordance with local policies, national guidelines and competency requirements.
• Undertake comprehensive patient assessments prior to treatment and identify any concerns that require review or escalation.
• Monitor patients throughout treatment, recognising and responding appropriately to adverse reactions, complications or changes in condition.
• Support the management of treatment-related side effects and provide appropriate advice and interventions.
• Develop, implement and evaluate individualised care plans to meet patients' physical, emotional and psychological needs.
• Provide information, education and support to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment and symptom management.
• Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive patient records in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
• Ensure safe handling, storage and administration of medications in line with regulatory requirements and best practice.
• Work collaboratively with consultants, pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated and effective care.
• Contribute to discharge planning and ongoing patient management as required.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives and service development projects.
• Support and positively contribute to a culture of patient safety, quality and continuous improvement.

• Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience working within Oncology, Haematology or a Chemotherapy Day Unit setting.
• Current SACT competency and experience administering chemotherapy treatments independently.
• Knowledge of oncology treatments, toxicity management and patient assessment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Essential

• Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration.
• Demonstrable experience working within an oncology, haematology, chemotherapy or cancer services setting.
• SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) competency with experience administering chemotherapy treatments.
• Ability to undertake comprehensive patient assessments and identify clinical concerns requiring escalation.
• Experience monitoring patients during treatment and managing treatment-related side effects and adverse reactions.
• Sound knowledge of oncology nursing principles, medicines management and patient safety standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to provide education, support and guidance to patients throughout their treatment journey.
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.

• Recognised chemotherapy or Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) qualification.
• Post-registration qualification in Oncology, Cancer Care, Haematology or a related speciality.
• Previous experience working within a Chemotherapy Day Unit or Ambulatory Care setting.
• Experience caring for patients receiving a range of systemic anti-cancer therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted treatments.
• Experience working within a specialist oncology or haematology service.
• Understanding of clinical trials and research within cancer services.
• Experience providing patient education and health promotion within an oncology environment.
• Practice Assessor, Practice Supervisor or mentorship qualification.
• Experience participating in clinical audit, quality improvement or service development initiatives.
• Experience supporting the learning and development of junior staff, students or new team members.
• Knowledge of electronic patient record systems and digital healthcare technologies.
• Experience working within a private healthcare setting or a partnership model between NHS and independent healthcare providers.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to oncology nursing.
• Advanced communication skills, including supporting patients and families through complex treatment pathways.
