The aim of this post is to develop ICU nurses within the clinical area. The post holder will provide direct care to critically ill patients under the supervision of senior colleagues whilst acquiring and developing the specialist skills and knowledge to meet the needs of this patient group

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

  • Registered Nurse or equivalent with live NMC registration

Desirable

  • Recognized teaching and assessing qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of six months recent acute experience

Desirable

  • Evidence of mentoring and development of staff

Skills

  • Demonstrate an ability to listen and comprehend
  • Propose service developments
  • Ability to prioritise and organize workload
  • Ability to manage potentially difficult situations
  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate interventions and/or treatments Ability to develop own skills and knowledge
  • Physiological assessment of acutely unwell patient

Specific requirement

Essential

  • The post involves internal rotation from long days to nights
  • The role requires working within a designated area at an individual bed space which may be restricted by equipment. The post holder will need to be able to respond quickly to emergency situations in all areas of the unit.
  • Sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations
