Job description

Barnsley Hospital are looking to appoint a substantive Specialty Doctor in Anaesthesia. Duties of the post consists of providing Anaesthetic services ...

a)

The post holder will be accountable to the Clinical Lead and to the

consultant anaesthetists supervising them.

b) The successful applicant will be

contracted to work 10 PAs if full time with an increase to 11.5 by mutual

agreement.

c) Resident on-call will be on a 1:8 rota

with prospective cover and may be negotiable by mutual agreement between peers

and accommodating departmental needs.

D) The post holder will be required

i.

To

keep legible, comprehensive and detailed records.

ii.

To

communicate fully and effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives.

f)

Within

reason the post holders will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues.

g) The post holder will be asked to perform

additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

h) The post holder will be expected to

participate in audit and educational sessions within the department. They will

be expected to be involved in the delivery of the clinical governance agenda.

i)

It is

anticipated that following consultation, the work programme of the postholders

may change as services develop in line with the needs of the Trust.

Aptitudes

Essential

  • Demonstrates commitment to the post and Trust Values
  • Able to work flexibility to support service delivery

Desirable

  • Shows concern for excellence and is able to set, prioritise and monitor performance against objectives

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent.
  • Full GMC Registration with no restrictions or conditions to practice.

Desirable

  • Primary FRCA or equivalent.
  • MRCP.
  • FCEM primary.
  • Relevant courses attended (ALS, APLS, ATLS etc).
  • Additional relevant qualification (BMedSci, PGCE)

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years experience in anaesthesia.
  • Initial assessment of obstetric competencies and core level intensive care training or equivalent experience.
  • Interest in teaching.
  • Understands the importance of audit and service improvement.

Desirable

  • Additional relevant medical experience (eg acute medicine, ED).
  • Additional experience of obstetric anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.
  • Experience of teaching at a variety of levels.
  • Experience of working on audit and service improvement projects.
