Specialty Doctor Community Paediatrics

The post holder will work as a Specialty Doctor within Community Paediatrics at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, integrated care for children and young people across community settings, including Kaleidoscope.

The role encompasses the assessment, diagnosis and ongoing management of children and young people with developmental disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, complex health needs, and safeguarding concerns. The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary and multiagency environment, contributing to holistic care planning alongside health, education and social care partners.

The post holder will participate in clinical and service activities to ensure a high standard of patient care, with opportunities to develop specialist skills within community paediatrics. They will provide care under appropriate consultant supervision while developing increasing clinical autonomy, and will contribute to service development, quality improvement and integrated models of care across the Trust.

The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, be responsible for the provision of Community Paediatrics services for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. This will include:

Assessment, diagnosis and management of children and young people with:

Neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. autism)

Developmental delay and disability

Complex medical and social needs

Sensory impairments and long-term conditions

Participation in community paediatric clinics, including general and specialist clinics, delivering care in community settings such as Kaleidoscope, schools, and other appropriate environments

Contribution to multidisciplinary assessments and integrated care planning, working closely with therapists, community nursing teams, CAMHS, education professionals, social care and the voluntary sector

Participation in safeguarding activity, including the assessment and management of children where there are child protection concerns, and contribution to statutory processes such as looked after children assessments and reports

Provision of medical advice to support Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments and plans, contributing to multiagency decision-making

Support for the management of children with complex needs across community pathways, including coordination of care and liaison with acute and tertiary services where required

Participation in referral triage processes and prioritisation of clinical need, ensuring timely and appropriate access to services

Provision of clinical support and advice to colleagues, including GPs, health visitors, school nurses and other professionals involved in childrens care

Maintenance of continuing clinical responsibility for patients in their care, including appropriate documentation, communication and follow-up arrangements, with due regard for delegation where appropriate

Contribution to multidisciplinary meetings (MDTs), case discussions and service forums to support coordinated care delivery and shared decision-making

Participation in clinical governance, including audit, quality improvement initiatives, risk management, and adherence to clinical guidelines and Trust policies.
