The post-holder will be accountable to Poonam Kalsi, Clinical Director of the Dental Directorate.
Main Place of EmploymentThe post will be based in the Tower Wing of Guy's Hospital. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.
Job SummaryThe post holders will be expected to:o Participate in clinical and other service activities with the objective of ensuring a high standard of patient care including a significant contribution to gathering data to demonstrate outcomes for our patients at Trust, local and national levelso Contribute to the clinical supervision of undergraduates and assist in the delivery of courses throughout the BDS programmeo Participate in training and education of postgraduate studentso Contribute to the development and management of quality improvement projects and clinical audit within the departmento Ensure that referral to treatment times for patients comply with the requirements of the Department of Healtho Contribute to departmental clinical research
Job Plan
The job plan is anticipated to contain up to 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to be carried out on Guys & St Thomas sites and currently does not include on-call commitments. This is a sample programme and the post holder will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan, including personal and professional objectives with the Clinical Director within 3 months of the start date.

Professional Qualifications
Essential
- Holding or eligible for full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) of the UK
Desirable
- Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Clinical experience in Oral Medicine and Chronic Orofacial Pain management
Clinical Skills
Essential
- Clinical skills necessary for Oral Medicine
- Proficiency in oral mucosal soft tissue surgery
- Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to service development.
Audit Management & IT
Essential
- Experience in clinical audit and quality improvement in the NHS
- Proficient IT skills in order to engage in electronic clinical systems
Desirable
- Involvement in quality improvement projects in addition to clinical audit
Research. Teaching Skill & Experience
Essential
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior dental staff utilising a wide variety of teaching methods
- Understanding of the principles and application of clinical research, including understanding and knowledge of research ethics
- Ability to appraise scientific literature critically
Desirable
- Formal teaching qualification to level of Post-graduate Certificate in Academic Practice, (FHEA) or higher.
- Knowledge and understanding of assessment with evidence of experience in assessment
Leadership/ Management Skills

- Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade / negotiate
