We are seeking an experienced full-time Specialty Doctor who will work at Cygnet Lodge Kewstoke and provide psychiatric care on our 12 bed high support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) service for men who have enduring mental illness and may have been detained under the Mental Health Act.
At Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke we are looking to rotate Specialty Doctors between wards so there is an opportunity to gain a varied clinical exposure as well as a chance to work with different consultants.
Cygnet Lodge Kewstoke provides a high quality care through a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach in a community facing environment. We focus on successful discharge planning from the moment individuals arrive.
Service users may have a range of mental health difficulties, including personality disorder or a mild learning disability (as a secondary diagnosis). Our approach focuses on a culture of risk management balanced with therapeutic optimism, where men have the opportunity to develop and practice skillsthey will need in a safe environment.
You will be fully involved as a practising psychiatrist - while being fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist and first-class multidisciplinary team.

Main duties and Responsibilities…
Provide high quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist
Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
Participate in weekly ward rounds & attend multidisciplinary meetings
Attend Care Programme Approach & Section 117 meetings & mental health review tribunals
Provide up-to-date clinical information at all meetings
Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development
Participate in the On call rota in line with the needs of the region

We are looking for someone who is...
Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
Experienced in General Psychiatry and mental health diagnosisAble to work as part of a multidisciplinary teamKnowledgeable of mental health legislation & codes of practiceAn excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage riskA first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notesCommitted to continued professional developmentPreferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent
Our Portfolio Pathway This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level – and you’ll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.
You’ll also have an educational supervisor to review your progress and oversee your development – and you’ll receive support with MRCPsych exams.
