You will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to service development, training and audit. You will also supervise and provide mentorship to junior colleagues, including Band 5 Speech and Language Therapists and SLT students.

You should be confident in managing a caseload independently, assessing and treating patients with a wide range of communication and swallowing difficulties. Service improvement and clinically developing services for our patients is at the heart of what we do, and we value all team members ideas.

We have a robust clinical and managerial supervision process in place. You will have access to peer support, regular supervision, regular team meetings, countywide staff meetings and in-house clinical forums. Professional development is encouraged through membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks, in-house and external training courses and is supported through annual appraisal.

We will consider a band 5 to band 6 developmental role for the right candidate if required.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent
  • Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC) Licence to Practice.
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses. e.g. Dysphagia

Desirable

  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short course related to progressive neurological diseases, respiratory conditions and elderly medicine.
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups (national and local).

Behaviours & Values

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills: Able to listen well and counsel patients and carers.
  • Able to demonstrate empathy with clients, carers and families and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates the ability to reflect on practice with peers/clinical supervisor.

Desirable

  • Experience of mentoring/ supervising junior SLTs or SLTAs.

Skill and Abilities

Essential

  • Evidence of clinical experience as qualified SLT in relevant field.
  • Demonstrates good analytical and reflection skills and Demonstrates well developed concentration skills.

Desirable

  • Commencing independent management of more complex swallowing disorders.
