Key responsibilities - Assist in the provision of a high-quality chemotherapy service - Work withinGood Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines when handling, dispensing, and managing clinical trial medications - Ensureaccurate and complete data recording, recognising that precision is essential to patient safety and trial integrity - Support thedispensing, ordering, receipt, and accountability of clinical trial drugs and oncology medicines - Maintain rigorousgovernance processes, including documentation, audit readiness, and adherence to policies and procedures - Assist senior technicians intraining and supervision of technicians, apprentices, and assistants - Promote thesafe, timely, and cost-effective use of medicines - Contribute to ahigh-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical service for both patients and staff

We operate from three main hospitals -the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

The RLI and FGH have a range of General Hospital services, with busy Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised pharmacy technician qualification
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Accredited checking qualification and registration with Northwest framework (equiv to NVQ level 4)

Desirable

  • ACT Mentor
  • GCP accreditation
  • Assessor Award
  • Medicines reconciliation training

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience in hospital Pharmacy or other Pharmacy setting
  • Experience in dispensing medications, drugs receipt, record keeping and cold chain maintenance

Desirable

  • Experience of hospital pharmacy and aseptics
  • Experience with clinical Audit and data analysis
  • Experience in specialist

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential

  • Working knowledge of pharmacy procedures, practices and legislation including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
  • Good manual, accuracy and analytical dispensing skills
  • Working knowledge of training requirements for technical / support posts
  • Ability to motivate self and others and lead a team
  • Ability to talk to / communicate with patients, carers and healthcare professionals clearly
  • Good influencing and teaching skills
  • Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft word and skills for dispensing and record keeping

Desirable

  • Further computing skills e.g. presentations and spreadsheets
