To assist in the provision of a high quality, patient focused, aseptic service, to patients of the trust particularly regarding provision of a chemotherapy compounding service.
To assist the senior technicians in the day to day running of the pharmacy aseptic service, including the training of technicians, apprentices and assistants in the technical aspects of the service.
To help facilitate and support the efficient and cost-effective use of medicines within the aseptic unit.
To provide safe, timely, cost effective appropriate and high qualitypharmaceutical services for patients and staff.
To apply for this post, you will be a Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC, be a qualified Accredited checking Technician with the required aseptic training

We operate from three main hospitals -the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
The RLI and FGH have a range of General Hospital services, with busy Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Education and qualifications
Essential
- Recognised pharmacy technician qualification
- NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent
- Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accredited checking qualification and registration with Northwest framework (equiv to NVQ level 4)
Desirable
- ACT Mentor
- GCP accreditation
- Assessor Award
- Medicines reconciliation training
Experience
Essential
- Relevant experience in hospital Pharmacy or other Pharmacy setting
- Experience in dispensing medications, drugs receipt, record keeping and cold chain maintenance
Desirable
- Experience of hospital pharmacy and aseptics
- Experience with clinical Audit and data analysis
- Experience in specialist
Skills, ability and knowledge
Essential
- Working knowledge of pharmacy procedures, practices and legislation including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
- Good manual, accuracy and analytical dispensing skills
- Working knowledge of training requirements for technical / support posts
- Ability to motivate self and others and lead a team
- Ability to talk to / communicate with patients, carers and healthcare professionals clearly
- Good influencing and teaching skills
- Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft word and skills for dispensing and record keeping
Desirable
- Further computing skills e.g. presentations and spreadsheets
