Specialist Rotational Occupational Therapist

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, assisting in the coordination and provision of a specialist occupational therapy service to patients within the acute orthopaedics inpatient and hand therapy outpatient teams.

Provide assessment and treatment for patients with a wide range of complex physical, sensory, perceptual and cognitive problems, including home environment assessments where required, and treatment of outpatient hand therapy patients.

Manage their own caseload, working alongside the multidisciplinary team and external agencies to deliver specialist treatment plans, including physiotherapy, Social Services and specialist nursing teams.

Work collaboratively with patients, families, carers and colleagues across health and social care services to support effective service planning, policy implementation and service delivery.

Deputise for the Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist, representing the department at relevant meetings within and outside the Trust.

Contribute to departmental meetings, participate in audits, and undertake research and CPD activities within the specialist area.

Maintain professional and specialist knowledge through appraisal, CPD activities and attendance at relevant specialist courses.

Plan and deliver specialist education to OTs, other professionals, patients and carers on sensory, perceptual and physical aspects of care.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential: - Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy .

Desirable: - Attendance at Clinical Educators course/ post graduate courses relevant to clinical field.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential: - 18 months clinical experience as a band 5 OT which should include at least 6 months in an acute Orthopaedics inpatient setting.

Desirable: - NHS experience as a qualified therapist in an acute hospital setting. Previous experience at band 6 level.

Skills, abilities and attributes

Essential: - Ability to use advanced skills in assessment and treatment of patients in relevant specialty field. Effective written and oral communication skills.

Desirable: - Experience of Audit/ research/ Service Improvement.
