We have an exciting opportunity for a dietitian to join our specialist Liver Dietetic Team for 12 months at 0.6 WTE, providing maternity cover.
If you are interested in liver disease, nutrition support and developing specialist clinical skills, this could be a great opportunity to take the next step in your dietetic career.
Our liver dietitians work with patients across the hepatology and liver transplant pathway, supporting people with complex nutritional needs before and after transplantation as well as those requiring specialist inpatient and outpatient dietetic care.
Working alongside experienced specialist dietitians and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in the nutritional management of complex liver disease. The role will involve assessing and managing patients with a range of nutritional needs, including malnutrition, sarcopenia, nutrition support and complications associated with advanced liver disease
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, compassionate and keen to develop. You will need good clinical reasoning, communication and organisational skills and enjoy working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Whether you already have experience within hepatology/gastroenterology or are looking for an opportunity to develop your specialist skills, we would be keen to hear from you.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated dietitian with excellent communication and organisational skills who enjoys collaborative multidisciplinary working. Previous experience in gastroenterology, liver disease or another relevant acute clinical speciality would be advantageous, although support and development will be available within the team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to broaden their specialist clinical experience while contributing to a highly specialised service at LTHT.
You will be fully supported by an experienced, collaborative liver dietetic team who are committed to developing your confidence and skills while delivering highquality, patientcentred care. Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in ensuring safe, effective and evidencebased nutritional management for people living with kidney disease.
The successful candidate will manage a varied specialist caseload across hepatology and liver transplantation, working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based nutritional care. Ker responsibilities will include:
Assess nutritional status and develop individualised nutrition care plans for patients with malnutrition, sarcopenia and complex nutritional requirements.
Provide evidence-based management of nutrition-related complications of advanced liver disease, including ascites and hepatic encephalopathy.
Assess and support patients undergoing liver transplant assessment and provide specialist nutritional care following transplantation.
Assess requirements for and manage oral nutrition support, enteral feeding and other complex nutrition support as appropriate.
Contribute to specialist hepatology and liver transplant outpatient pathways, including multidisciplinary working.
Work closely with hepatologists, transplant teams, nursing staff, pharmacists and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated patient care.
Provide patients and carers with clear, practical and individualised dietary education to support effective self-management.
Prioritise and manage a specialist caseload, recognising and escalating patients at nutritional or clinical risk.
Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to clinical governance, audit and service improvement within the liver dietetic service.
Contribute to the education and development of dietetic students, junior dietitians and other healthcare professionals.
Participate in departmental activities and support the wider Dietetic service as required.
As a Specialist Dietitian, you will also contribute to service development, quality improvement and professional practice across the Dietetic Department and Hepatology Services. The team places high value on health, wellbeing and worklife balance, and we are proud to offer a flexible, supportive and inclusive working environment.
The post will be primarily based at St James’s University Hospital.
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is committed to delivering the highest quality and safest treatment and care to every patient, every time.
Our vision is to provide the highest quality specialist and integrated care.
We will do this through delivery of our multi-year goals and strategic priorities, which you can read about on this page.
