Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking to appoint Specialist Grade doctors in Acute Medicine to work across the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Acute A...
The primary purpose of this post is to provide clinical leadership across the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), General Medicine wards and the Acute Medicine rotas. Specialist Grade doctors rotate through duties including Consultant/Specialist Grade doctor of the Week for the AMU, Ambulatory Care, and on-call commitments within an eight-week cycle. This rotation pattern may be adjusted in line with departmental needs.
A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Clinical Director (on behalf of the Medical Director) within three months of appointment.

On-site presence 09:0017:00 including morning ward round and MDT board round.
Afternoon mini-board round and review of new or deteriorating patients.
Participation in the Medical SDEC service (MondayFriday, 09:0017:00).
Contribution to the acute medical take and post-night review processes.
Participation in the 1:10 weekend non-frail GIM rota.
Supporting the development of a future 7day AMU service.
Commitment to continuous improvement of acute and general medical services.
A separate oncall Consultant begins at 09:00 to oversee admissions until 17:00, with early evening cover (17:0021:00) provided by rotating GIM-accredited and acute medical Consultants. Frailty posttake assessments operate under a separate model using modified Bournemouth criteria.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full registration with the GMC and hold a licence to practise
- Minimum of 12 years clinical experience since qualification, with at least 6 years in Acute and General medicine in the specialty doctor or SAS grade.
- Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist Grade generic capabilities framework which has been developed by AoMRC, BMA and NHS Employers
Desirable
- MD/PhD or other higher degree MRCP or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Broad based training and wide experience of acute & general medicine
Desirable
- A special interest within Acute Medicine complementing those currently in the directorate.
- An interest in managing non-frail in acute care and the community would be particularly welcome Broad experience of working within the NHS
Teaching Experience
Essential
- Experience and interest in undergraduate teaching
- Skill and ability in formal and informal teaching for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and nursing/midwifery staff
Desirable
- Evidence of ability to organise training / teaching events.
- A teaching qualification
Management and Administrative Experience
Essential
- Understanding of the implications of the NHS Plan and other national guidance and policy relevant to the provision of geriatric medicine.
- Understanding of NHS organisation and management
- A commitment to participate in the management of the Directorate of Medicine
Desirable
- Formal management course with previous management experience especially of change management.
Research Experience
Essential
- Knowledge of research methodology & Clinical trials
Desirable
- Participation in research with peer-reviewed publications
IT skills
Essential
- Ability to use Microsoft office packages, e.g. MS Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint.
- Ability to use patient information systems
Desirable
- Experience in IT transformation and implementation
