Make a difference from the very beginning of your social work career.

Are you a Newly Qualified Social Worker looking for the right place to complete your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE)?

Cheshire West and Chester Council is a place where everyone can Thrive – through our core values of Teamwork, Honesty, Respect, Innovation, Value for Money and Empowerment.

At Cheshire West and Chester Council, we believe that great social workers are developed through support, learning and meaningful practice experiences. We are looking for passionate and motivated Newly Qualified Social Workers who want to make a genuine difference to the lives of children, young people and families across Cheshire West.

This is an exciting time to join us as we continue to invest in our Children's Social Care services through the Families First Partnership Programme and the emerging Care reforms. Our Family Help, Family Help Safeguarding and Children in Care Teams work alongside partner agencies to deliver timely, relationship-based support which helps children remain safe, happy and achieve their full potential.

As an ASYE Social Worker, you will benefit from a structured programme designed to build your confidence, skills and professional judgement. You will receive dedicated support, protected development time, regular supervision and access to experienced and approachable managers who are invested in your success.

  • Are passionate about improving outcomes for children and families.
  • Want to build strong, meaningful relationships with the children they support.
  • Are committed to learning and developing their social work practice.
  • Value trauma-informed and systemic approaches.
  • Believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Our approach is rooted in trauma-informed and systemic practice, enabling social workers to understand the experiences of children and families and support them to achieve positive, lasting change.

We have invested in innovative technology through Magic Notes, reducing administration time by an average of six hours per week and allowing social workers to spend more time where it matters most, with children and families.

Many of our leaders started their careers here, progressing through the organisation whilst being supported to reach their full potential. If you are looking for a local authority that will invest in you from day one, Cheshire West and Chester could be the perfect place to start your social work journey.

  • Structured ASYE programme and support
  • High quality reflective supervision
  • Excellent learning and development opportunities
  • Trauma-informed practice training
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Bright, modern office environments with tea and coffee provided
  • Free parking at all office locations
  • Social Work England registration paid for by the Council
  • Up to 16 days flexi leave per year, in addition to annual leave
  • Clear progression opportunities following successful completion of ASYE including immediate pay reward

Salary: Grade 8 SCP 23-28 (£35,570 - £40,444)
