Registered Nurse, you will lead shifts and coordinate care, using your clinical
judgement and autonomy to respond to patients changing needs.
You will provide
skilled, compassionate nursing care, support patients and those closest to
them, and work closely with our multidisciplinary team.
You will also
support the development of Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and
students through supervision, one-to-ones and mentoring, giving you valuable
leadership experience while remaining closely involved in clinical care.

Unit in Wroughton provides specialist care for people with a range of
life-limiting illnesses. Patients may come to us for complex symptom
management, such as pain or breathlessness, emotional and family support, or
care at the end of life.
Registered Nurse, you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised
nursing care, considering each patients physical, emotional, spiritual, social
and practical needs. You will build trusting relationships with patients and
those closest to them, providing emotional and psychological support alongside
excellent clinical care.
You will take
responsibility for the running of shifts, working with colleagues across the
multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-led care.
Alongside your
clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to service development, education,
quality improvement, audit and clinical governance. You will act as a positive
nursing role model and help new and junior colleagues develop their end-of-life
nursing skills.
You will
participate in the Senior Nurse on-call rota, providing support to nursing
colleagues out of hours within the agreed scope of authority. There will also
be a requirement to work shifts within the community and flexibly across both
teams when needed.
The role is 36
hours per week over seven days, working both days and nights. Part-time hours
will be considered.
Salary will be
dependent on palliative care experience. Prospect Hospice is not part of NHS
Agenda for Change.

Prospect Hospice is an independent hospice supporting a community of
300,000 people in Swindon, Marlborough and North Wiltshire, and the villages of
Lechlade and Fairford in Gloucestershire. It is the only dedicated provider of
specialist end of life care services within its locality. The Hospices
multi-professionals teams support people in the community, in care homes, at
the Great Western Hospital and at the Hospice in Wroughton. Care is also
extended to the families and friends of patients.

Skills
Essential
- Good communication skills, including listening, negotiating skills, communication of ideas and ability to provide advice to other health professionals at all levels.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to provide non-judgmental and empathic emotional support to patients whilst maintaining safe and appropriate boundaries.
- Effective problem-solving skills and judgment to know which decisions need to be referred on to a senior colleague or nurse on call
- Able to recognise own limitations and initiate appropriate onward referral.
- Ability to manage time effectively.
- Good IT skills.
Qualifications
Essential: - NMC Registered General Nurse.
Desirable
- Diploma in Palliative Care.
- Care of the Dying Person Module (Level 2), and commitment to progressing relevant level 2 or 3 study.
- Evidence of continuing professional development within specialist palliative care.
Experience
Essential
- General palliative care experience.
- Understanding of reflective practice.
- Understanding of clinical governance and its requirements, including clinical audit.
- Understanding of hospice nursing philosophy.
- Demonstrate an understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection principles.
- Understanding and experience of multi-disciplinary working.
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of developing ways to sustain coping, including use of support and supervision.
- Understanding of the qualities of a role model.
Desirable
- Specialist palliative care experience.
- Good knowledge of palliative care or relevant specialist field.
- Experience within a relevant specialist field.
- Audit and quality improvement abilities.

- Emotionally able to work within the field of palliative care.
- Flexible approach to working.
- Self-motivated and compassionate.
