- Team Support: Assisting the Operations Manager in training new reception staff, troubleshooting daily workflow bottlenecks, and covering shifts during peak times.
- System & Admin Management: Overseeing the clinical system (EMIS Web), managing digital consultation queues (Accurx), and ensuring accurate data entry.
- Clinic Flow Control: Monitoring patient wait times, coordinating urgent "squeeze-in" appointments with the duty doctor, and liaising directly with the clinical team.

Job PurposeTo provide a high-quality, professional, and compassionate front-of-house service to patients and visitors. The Senior Medical Receptionist supports the Reception Supervisor by acting as a point of escalation for complex queries, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring smooth daily administration across both practice sites.
- Resolve complex patient queries and handle sensitive or difficult situations at the front desk calmly and professionally.
- Coordinate the appointment system, ensuring optimum utilization of clinics and managing urgent, "squeeze-in" requests with the duty doctor.
- Act as a main point of contact for external healthcare professionals, social services, and ambulance crews.
Team Support & Workflow Coordination- Assist in training, mentoring, and onboarding new medical receptionists.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to the reception team, ensuring practice policies and protocols are strictly followed.
- Support the Supervisor in managing staff rotas and arranging cover during staff absences or peak periods.
Administration & Clinical Systems- Maintain data integrity within the clinical system (EMIS Web), ensuring accurate registration of new patients and updating of records.
- Monitor and manage digital queues and online consultations (e.g., Accurx, eConsult).
- Process repeat prescription requests and route incoming clinical mail, workflow tasks, and results efficiently to the medical team.
Health, Safety & Premises- Open and close the surgery sites securely in accordance with practice procedures.
- Maintain a clean, welcoming, and safe reception and waiting area environment.

Qualifications
Essential: - GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths or equivalent; - Further education in Health & Social Care or similar; - Qualified to NVQ level 3
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 2 years working as a GP Receptionist in the NHS.
- Proficiency with NHS clinical systems (ideally EMIS Web).
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and multitasking abilities.
- Calm under pressure, reliable, and a supportive team player.
Desirable
- Prior experience working in a multi-site GP practice.
- Experience with digital triage tools (Accurx/eConsult).
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and clinical coding.
- Flexibility to travel and work across both Camden sites.
Additional
Essential: - Able to work the core hours of the surgery 08:30 - 18:30 (37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday)
