- To work autonomously within the Orthoptic team demonstrating effective time management skills to independently manage a caseload of non-complex patients, devising and implementing treatment programmes with reference to a qualified Orthoptist.
- Contributing to effective care, discharges, ensuring adherence to trust policy at all times.
- To provide clinical support for less experienced staff as delegated by the team leader.
- To contribute to the effective and efficient running of the Orthoptic service

Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ III in care or equivalent level of knowledge and skills
- Educated to GCSE level grade C or above including Maths and English
- Committed to undertaking assistant practitioner qualification within 6 months
- Commitment to lifelong learning
Desirable: - oKnowledge of ophthalmic procedures/department oFoundation Degree or equivalent in relevant area oCompletion of internal band 3 technician competencies
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of meeting the care needs of an individual or group of individuals with specialist needs e.g. NHS or nursing home environment
- Relevant and recent experience within a therapy department at band 3 or therapy technician
- Experience of reading health care notes and extracting relevant information
- Experience of managing own time and prioritising activities
- Experience of undertaking therapy tasks ie. Visual fields, visual screening, imaging, complex vision assessment
Desirable
- Recent NHS/care experience
- Previous experience working in specialty area
- Experience of supervising others
- Ability to delegate clinical and non-clinical duties to others
Knowledge
Essential
- Demonstrates some theoretical knowledge and application of therapeutic interventions in Orthoptic practice
- Understanding of health and safety in relation to Ophthalmology
- Knowledge of current issues which relate to the NHS
- Knowledge of confidentiality
- Knowledge of Orthoptic therapy and service provision
- Evidence of completion of internal band 3/technician competencies
Desirable: - oAwareness of the role of a Assistant practitioner within Therapy oKnowledge of appraisal and supervision process

- Demonstrate empathy for patients needs regarding privacy, dignity and cultural beliefs

- Able to carry out instructions
- To be able to seek help and direction when necessary

- Good IT skills with basic knowledge and application of Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to carry out delegated work independently
