An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed 12 month post in our friendly Memory assessment service in Brent. The successful applicant will be based at Fairfield's House in Kingsbury. This is an ideal opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to develop their neuropsychiatric skills and gain valuable experience.
The post includes comprehensive assessment of a patient's functioning including neuropsychiatric assessment. Specific to assessment the Occupational Therapist (OT) will utilise MOHO evidence-based assessment tools in order to establish a baseline functional assessment from which recommendations can determine further on going care and treatment to enable optimum functioning.
To provide the Brent Memory Service (BMS) with an Occupational therapy service and expertise; this will include individual and group work, assessment including neuropsychiatric assessment, intervention and evaluation in accordance with the College of OT Code of Ethics.
To work as an integrated member of the memory service responding to referrals and offering assessment, support with diagnosis, liaison with other agencies.
To provide clinical leadership for junior/unqualified staff and students through supervision and appraisal as required.

Educational and Qualifications
Essential
- State Registered Occupational Therapist. Current registration with Health and Care Professions council (HCPC)
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Evidence of relevant CPD
Desirable
- Students Supervisors Course.
- Member of the British Association of Occupational Therapy.
- Member of College of OT Older People Specialist section.
- Training and/or previous experience in Model of Human Occupation theory and assessments.
Previous experience
Essential
- Relevant pre-qualifying and/or post qualification experience of working in at least 3 different clinical settings
- Pre-qualifying and/or post qualifying experience of working with older adults those with dementia.
- Staff supervision.
- Experience of working in a multi-cultural context and being aware of equality and diversity needs.
- Experience of maintain a written record of continual professional development.
- Experience of facilitating relevant assessments, individual and groupwork in line with risk management plans, procedures and policies.
- Experience in managing resources, eg, financial, stock, equipment.
Desirable
- Experience of delivering specific OT focused in service training to the MDT and junior staff.
- Experience in service user involvement projects
- Experience of supervising therapy assistants and/or facilitating practice placements for students.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Essential
- Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliance to be developed & maintained with service users who have multiple & complex needs.
- Experience of undertaking specialist OT assessments and writing specialist OT reports including ADL and Neuro
- Evidence of leading and running evidence based group activities for service users with complex and diverse needs.
- Proficient standard of written communication skills. Proficient in IT skills
- Experience in the provision of physical health interventions including psychoeducation in line with NICE guidelines, assessment and provision of minor aids and adaptations, moving and handling skills.
- Ability to and experience in assessing and managing risks in relation to tasks and workplace.
Desirable
- Delivery of formal presentations and teaching to a range of disciplines.
- Auditing skills
- Ability to act as a preceptor to support the transition and development of newly qualified staff through acting as a part of preceptorship programmes.
