The Ophthalmology Department at Malton Hospital are recruiting for a band 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker to join our welcoming and growing nursing...
- Continue to provide excellent patient care in undertaking tasks involved in the patient journey for example:
- Testing Vision.
- Measuring IOP.
- Conducting Humphrey visual fields tests.
- Instilling eye drops under supervision of registrants.
- Attending to patients' general and specific needs during their visit
- Inclusive of many other duties of HCAs.
- Leading on audit and improvement projects in the eye clinic, with the support of the leadership team.
- Mentoring less senior members of the team, including new starter HCAs.
- Providing guidance and support for all staff members, leading in terms of attitude, energy and quality of care.
- Upholding and providing a shining example of the Trust's values at all times.
- Assisting nurses, doctors and AHPs in treatment rooms for procedures such as intravitreal injections, across sites (Bridlington Hospital and York Stadium) where appropriate.

Skills
Essential
- Demonstratable effective written and verbal communication skills
- Completion of the Skills for Health Care Certificate (or equivalent) and outpatient competency packages.
- Basic IT skills, able to digitally record observations accurately and use applications such as email on a computer or smart device (e.g. tablet)
- Competent to record and escalate patient observations, undertake venepuncture and to be trained in cannulation.
- 1-year's previous experience in a Health Care Support Worker role
Desirable
- Ability to communicate health-related information
Qualifications
Essential
- Numeracy/literacy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2-3, D-F or equivalent)
Desirable
- Level 3 health care related qualification e.g., BTEC, NVQ, T-Level, Apprenticeship
- Numeracy and literacy skills to Level 2 (GCSE Grade 4-9, A-C or equivalent)
