We are looking to recruit a part time Senior Health Care Support Worker (0.59 WTE) to join us within the Breast Unit of Peterborough City Hospital.

The successful candidate will work within our Symptomatic Breast Outpatient Clinics, be caring, have good communication skills and a willingness to learn and develop. Our Health Care Support Workers are an intrinsic part of our clinical teams, working closely with our Breast Care Practitioners offering support to patients who have been referred to our service.

The role responsibilities include

1. Always acting in the patient's best interests, ensuring patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by caring for all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity, compassion and courtesy in accordance with the Trust values.

2. Providing individualised personal and clinical care, respecting personal beliefs and preferences.

3. Protecting and maintaining the patient's privacy and dignity at all times.

4. Demonstrates own duties to new starters/ supervises work of students and junior staff. Acting as a Mentor for new Healthcare support workers.

5. Alerting the Registered Practitioner to any change or concern relating to the welfare of a patient in a timely manner.

Priority will be given to colleagues identified as at risk through the Trust's redeployment process.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ / QCF Level 3 in a health-related subject or demonstrable equivalent experience supported by completion of a competency-based clinical skills framework
  • Maths and English skills equivalent to Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy
  • Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent experience

Key Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English in writing, via IT, verbally and using the telephone

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working as a Healthcare Support Worker
  • Experience of caring for patients in an acute setting
  • Experience of working within a team
