There is an exciting opportunity to join our Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner team at University hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

We are seeking motivated and experienced Emergency Practitioners who are able to demonstrate that they can see, treat and independently discharge adult patients from our Minor Injuries Unit to join our dynamic team . As a senior member of the team you will be involved in the clinical and managerial aspects of caring for Emergency patients attending our busy department.Main duties as below,

  • Co-ordinate the care of the UTC/MIU patients throughout the care pathway with the multidisciplinary team and clinical services to ensure the effective management of this group of patients.
  • Demonstrate specialist skills, knowledge, and expertise in the management of minor injury and minor illness conditions in line with Scope of practice.
  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
  • Using Advanced history taking skills, obtains a patient history in a systematic manner including pertinent physical, social, emotional, psychological, or environmental factors.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Study at level 6 (Degree/Diploma) in healthcare.
  • Current Professional Registration NMC/HCPC
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Recognised academically credited Emergency Practitioner Course (Minor Injury/Minor Illness)
  • Teaching and assessment qualification and is currently teaching sessions.
  • PiLs/ ILS course
  • Advanced Health Assessment
  • Assessors in date

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification or completion of a leadership course
  • ALS and EPALS courses
  • Non-Medical Prescriber

Experience

Essential

  • Experienced Emergency Practitioner with substantial experience as a Band 6 qualified Emergency Practitioner in adult/ children's emergency care.
  • Familiarity and quality assurance of nursing audit.
  • Conflict management
  • Experience of independently managing patients with minor injury/illness in emergency care setting.
  • Experience of mentoring and supporting junior staff
  • Change management experience.

Desirable

  • Experience in research and audit.
  • Experience of Policy/Service development
  • Experience of service development and project work
  • Evidence of conference presentation or journal publication

Knowledge

Essential

  • A knowledgeable practitioner with the ability to critically analyse research and apply to the practice setting.
  • Evidence of research/audit of practice
  • Evidence of knowledge/ understanding of collaborative practice and the Emergency Practitioner role.
  • A sound knowledge of professional policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and a commitment to clinical supervision and staff development
  • Good understanding of NHS issues

  • Advanced Assessment and History taking skills.
  • Practical skills e.g. Plastering, suturing.
  • Patient focussed.
  • Excellent communication skills and good interpersonal skills
  • Effective leadership skills
  • IT skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Good management of own and others time
  • Able to use initiative analysing problems to implement solutions and make decisions.
  • Approachable and adaptable to team working in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Self-motivated and able to motivate others

Desirable

  • Ability to produce reports and formulate policies.
