Senior Cardiac Cathlab Radiographer

Support the delivery of the Cardiac Catheter Lab Service

To assist in the provision of an efficient radiology service and be responsible for service delivery and service improvement

To undertake regular audit of their own practice and of other Radiographers

To assist in the facilitation and coordination of the patient pathway within the lab, taking into consideration local and national objectives providing advice on developments.

To deputise for the Superintendent Radiographer

To support 24/7 PPCI service, including bank/public holidays as required by the needs of the service.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

To maintain a high level of clinical expertise.

To participate in the department shift system and 24/7 PPCI service.

To encourage and practice right first time radiography and strive to achieve quality assurance in all aspects of the radiology service.

To be responsible for the care and comfort of the patient whilst they are in the Radiology Department respecting their privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs.

Perform technical administrative tasks, including accurate patient information, examination details and post processing requirements on the Radiology Information and PACS systems. This will include fixing up of images on the PACS system when required.

To undertake intravenous injection of contrast media in compliance with the Imaging Service protocol, following training and if required by the role.

To supervise, advise and mentor staff.

To work closely with the Superintendent Radiographers to provide optimum patient care and constantly seek ways of improving standards and performance.

Organise, plan and prioritise workload according to clinical need. Take responsibility for and organise sections of the department as required.

To oversee and assist in the training of new staff and continuous development of departmental staff within the area to enable adequate cover and to meet ongoing demands of the service.

To assist in the development, documentation and monitoring of protocols for working practice within the area.

To contribute fully in the regular setting, monitoring and review of performance and quality management of all aspects of the service.

To assist in monitoring the quality of service to patients and where appropriate participate in the development and implementation of proposals for improving services.

Monitor the capacity and demand of the service and assist in reviewing working practices to accommodate any shift in requirements. To take responsibility for appropriate escalation in accordance with the department procedure and communicate actions.
