Senior Audiologist

• This is a role in which the post holder will be clinically responsible for the provision of routine and specialist audiological assessment and rehabilitation of patients with a focus on a specific patient group and specific area(s) of specialism within the service. Whilst the post holder will primarily work with an identified patient group they will be expected to work flexibly across the services including paediatrics and adults.
• The post holder will work as an independent senior clinical audiologist routinely undertaking the following tasks:
• Under the supervision of the appropriate Deputy Clinical Lead ensure service provision for nominated specialism(s).
• Undertake full audiological assessment , to include complex and non-routine.
• Analyse test results and other assessment data to determine differential diagnosis, the need for medical opinion and/or to decide on treatment options.
• Develop, arrange, and implement individual treatment plans for patients in a person-centred way.
• Within the above duties select, administer, and interpret wide range of diagnostic tests, structured assessments, and treatment plans.
• Record clinical observations and test results, maintaining database entries of clinical findings.
• Provide complex and sensitive information and advice to patients and carers.
• Prepare audiological reports containing findings on assessment and review with recommendations and advice based on clinical observations, assessment and knowledge for other professional colleagues and patients.
• Liaise with large multidisciplinary teams for professionals within the department and wider service structure to ensure that each patient receives a high quality and well coordinated service in line with local and national requirements.
• Supporting training for other staff, including those on work placement and less experienced colleagues.
• Participate in service improvement.
• Responsible for maintaining CPD to maintain registration.
• The post holder will undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.

Essential

• BSc in audiology or equivalent level, relevant qualification
• Registered Audiologist with the HCPC or AHCS as a registered clinical physiologist or state registered clinical scientist
• BAA accredited Certificate to Practice
• Completed audiology Practitioner Training Programme or equivalent and a track record of post programme experience

Desirable

• Mentorship certificate
• MSc in Audiology / M level credits in general audiology/specialist areas
• STP in Audiology completed or HTS module in appropriate area
• British Sign Language qualification
• Membership of BSA/BAA

• Evidence of interest in specialist area and ability to develop skills further
• Excellent written communication skills including the ability to clearly document test results, treatment options, and outcomes in patient notes
• Evidence of continuing professional development

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to include ability to communicate with the hearing impaired and carers in emotional states and work effectively with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary team
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage a busy and varied caseload
• Ability to make judgements involving complex facts which require the analysis, interpretation, and comparison of a range of options
• Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and lead data driven improvement initiatives
• Good level of IT skills to include word processing, use of spreadsheets and databases
• Ability to work at outreach clinics as required
