This is a unique opportunity for an experienced GP who is passionate about leadership, innovation, and improving healthcare delivery. Working as part of our senior clinical team, you'll play a central role in shaping services, supporting workforce development, and driving continuous improvement across the practice.

While maintaining a clinical commitment, you'll have the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, mentor and develop colleagues, lead quality initiatives, and champion new ways of working that enhance both patient experience and health outcomes.

Clinical Leadership & Decision-Making

Act as a senior point of reference for complex clinical queries and risk-based decision-making.

Provide real-time advice, second opinions, and support to GPs and the wider MDT.

Maintain high standards of evidence-based, person-centred care.

People Management & Workforce Development

Support appraisal, performance management, and professional development.

Foster a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing clinical culture.

Governance, Quality & Safety

Contribute to and lead elements of clinical governance, incident review, and quality improvement.

Ensure safe management of results, prescriptions, and clinical workflows across the practice.

Operational & Service Leadership

Work closely with operational leads to manage demand, capacity, and service pressures

Lead or contribute to service redesign, pathway development, and innovation projects

Support day-to-day operational decision-making to ensure safe, effective service delivery.

Strategic Contribution

Contribute to practice strategy, workforce planning, and system-level working.

Build relationships with secondary care, community services, and wider stakeholders.

Banbury Cross Health Centre is owned and operated by Principal Medical Limited (PML), which works in partnership with the NHS to deliver primary care services in GP practices and community settings.

Founded in 2004 as a not-for-profit organisation by local GPs, PML was established to enable healthcare professionals to develop and deliver innovative services at scale. Today, 70% of GP practices in Oxfordshire and 22% in Northamptonshire are associated with the Federation.

PML is the largest GP Federation in Oxfordshire and South Northamptonshire, serving nearly 800,000 patients. We believe local providers are best placed to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care that meets community needs.

With over 20 years of experience, PML has a strong track record of delivering NHS, ICB and Public Health services. Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in General Practice.
  • Significant post-CCT experience working as an independent GP.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex, high-risk and undifferentiated clinical presentations.
  • Strong record of safe, high quality, patient centred clinical practice.

Desirable

  • Experience of providing senior clinical advice and decision-making support to colleagues.
  • Experience of working at a senior advisory level.
  • Experience leading quality improvement programmes or governance processes.
  • Experience working collaboratively across organisational and professional boundaries.
  • Experience supporting, mentoring, or supervising GPs and/or multidisciplinary clinicians.
  • Experience of strategic planning, business cases, or commissioning processes.
  • Experience of contributing to service development, redesign, or quality improvement.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Fully qualified medical doctor (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent).
  • GMC registration with license to practice.
  • Inclusion on the GP Register and Performers list.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD and revalidation.
  • Medical Indemnity appropriate to scope of practice.

Desirable

  • Educational roles (e.g. GP Trainer, Educational Supervisor, Appraiser).

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and quality assurance.
  • Experience of audit, quality improvement, or service evaluation.
  • Ability to use data and learning to improve practice.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to foster a supportive, inclusive and safe working environment.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable specialist knowledge, skills or experience in a defined area of responsibility.
  • Ability to translate evidence, policy and best practice into effective clinical pathways and services.
  • Experience of influencing practice beyond own clinical sessions.
  • Recognised leadership role within the specialist area at PCN, level.
  • Involvement in incident investigation, serious incident reviews, or complaints management.
  • Established relationships with secondary care, community, or voluntary sector partners.
  • Ability to balance clinical quality, workforce sustainability, and system pressures.
  • Understanding of primary care governance.
