Safeguarding (Midwifery) Lead

To have a management role which includes the management of Safeguarding Specialist Midwives.

To work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and partner agencies to ensure that babies and their families who come into contact with services at BCUHB are safeguarded.

Together with members of the Safeguarding Team, contribute to the Health Board's safeguarding policies, procedures and strategies.

Actively participate and lead on quality assurance processes, audits and report writing in accordance with the safeguarding agenda.

To give obstetric and maternity safeguarding assurance to the Director of Safeguarding and Public Protection and North Wales Safeguarding Board as requested.

To contribute in line with BCUHB responsibilities relating to the Single Unified Safeguarding Review (SUSR) process, ensuring recommendations are implemented and audited.

Ensure that BCUHB meets its statutory obligation to safeguard and promote the welfare of all unborn babies, children, young people and vulnerable pregnant women who access services within BCUHB.

The post-holder will need a strong grasp of clinical and safeguarding risks associated with midwifery, and the VAWDASV agenda and the associated legislative requirements.

The post-holder will have a significant role to play in developing services; working on a range of safeguarding compliance audits, and with clinical colleagues across all services and specialties to ensure individuals who require protection from harm benefit from optimal care from BCUHB. The role will also provide advice to secondary care, and support clinical colleagues in assessing environmental and other risks to those using acute and other BCUHB services.

The post-holder will have a significant level of autonomy, and will be able to work without direct day-to-day supervision but will require a strong awareness of the need to share information appropriately, and when to escalate to the Head of Safeguarding Children.
