Residential Care Worker Location: Derby Salary: £29,620 – £35,320 per annum, including sleep-ins and bonuses Sleep-ins: £70 per night Hours: 40 hours per week, including days, lates, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays

Job Purpose The Residential Care Worker will provide high-quality care and support to children and young people, promoting their emotional, physical, educational and personal development.

The role will involve acting as a positive role model, safeguarding children and young people, promoting independence and helping to create a safe, nurturing and supportive home environment.

Provide individualised care in line with each child’s care plan, risk assessment and safety plan.Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.Support emotional, physical, educational and social development.Promote independence, confidence and positive relationships.Act as a positive role model and maintain professional boundaries.Support school attendance, homework, educational activities and appropriate leisure activities.Support family contact where required and in line with individual care plans.Encourage children and young people to participate in activities, events and experiences safely.Promote equality, diversity and inclusion.Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming home environment.Complete required health and safety checks and report any concerns.Maintain accurate and timely records, reports and daily documentation.Follow safeguarding, health and safety and other relevant policies and procedures.Report safeguarding or welfare concerns to the Registered Manager or appropriate manager.Work effectively as part of the residential care team.Complete mandatory training and take responsibility for ongoing professional development.

Person Specification Experience

Previous experience working with children and young people in social care, education or similar settings is desirable but not essential, as training is provided.Experience supporting children and young people with challenging or complex behaviours is desirable.Understanding of safeguarding, child protection and managing sensitive situations is desirable.

Willingness to undertake, actively work towards, or already hold a Level 4 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce.Commitment to completing the relevant qualification within two years where required.

Good verbal and written communication skills.Resilient, patient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.Ability to work effectively as part of a team.Strong commitment to safeguarding and the wellbeing of children and young people.Ability to build positive, trusting relationships.Organised and willing to develop planning and professional skills.Positive attitude and ability to lead by example.

Additional Requirements

Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and register with the DBS Update Service.Ability to work flexibly according to the rota, including nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.Full UK driving licence is desirable.
