- Take lead responsibility for the coding of complex activity including deceased patients to the highest standard of quality coded data as verified by audit
- Maintain coding accuracy when audited in line with national requirements
- Assist the Management team in validation of coded data and to monitor and report on performance and data quality issues as appropriate
- Organise and take lead responsibility for the cover of absent team members, extraction of clinical information from patient's case notes and the coding of this information across a variety of wards and specialities
- Participate in the development and management of coding services to enhance the accuracy of clinical coding
- Exhibit expert knowledge of clinical coding data aspects in support of Payment by Results and participate in the management of the clinical coding service to provide accurate, timely and completed coded clinical data for all episodes of care for all specialties within the Trust using ICD10 and OPCS4

Qualifications
Essential
- A good level of education, Minimum GCSE or equivalent C and above in English, Maths and Science.
- NCCQ(UK)
- Completion of appropriate clinical coding courses, including up to date with refresher training.
Desirable
- Educated to undergraduate degree level.
- Qualified clinical coding auditor/trainer.
Experience
Essential
- At least two years Clinical Coding experience. Experience analysing and appropriately coding complex clinical information across a wide range of clinical specialities.
- Previous employment in an acute NHS Trust.
Desirable
- Experience with EPR systems
- Experience with 3M Medicode.
- Experience coding all specialties including Neurosurgery, T&O and obstetrics.
Knowledge
Essential
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology terms in relation to clinical coding.
- Comprehensive knowledge/understanding of health records and hospital procedures.
Desirable
- Knowledge of mortality quality indicators.
Skills
Essential
- Ability to use clinical coding knowledge to communicate complex coding rules to clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex data. Ability to work to deadline whilst maintaining high quality.
- Ability to work in partnership with others to deliver deadline targets.
- Ability to motivate others. Good level of competence in Windows-based applications
