- To be able to undertake nurse led pre-assessment on patients undergoing elective surgery for all specialities, provide health promotion advice and ensure that written information relating to the surgery is given.
- Patient is optimised for surgery and risks are identified and action taken. This involves screening of patients ensuring that they are fit for surgery and escalating when necessary
- Ensure that effective communication is maintained both within pre-assessment, surgical admissions and with relevant multidisciplinary team.
- When working in the Surgical Admissions Unit to help ensure the smooth running of the department and the timely arrival of patients to theatre, liaising with the multi-disciplinary team and other departments on a daily basis following guidelines and protocol
- The staff nurse or ODP in POAC is responsible for the pre-operative assessment of adult patients having a planned surgical procedure for their fitness for general anaesthetic and surgery within Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
- You will be responsible for patient-centred assessments which includes liaising with patients, their carers, and the multi-disciplinary team.
Training and mentoring will be provided to support you in reaching your goals.
