Our Band 5 nurses work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and play an important role in contributing in how people experience our services. Band 5 nurses are expected to be kind and compassionate; but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
Keeping the people who using our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills, effective risk assessments and care planning.
Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedures, and completing clinical audits.
Ensuring that the people using our services have a valuable experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people and their families during the recovery process.
We believe that the best health care is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working well together and in partnership with other teams and services to provide seamless care.
We are a multi professional experienced diverse team from different ethic backgrounds.
We work together to learn different skills and achieve additional training to help support our services users to achieve a well rounded recovery plan.
We as a team; we undertake quality improvement projects to improve our service users safety and delivery of continuing care.
As a Band 5 RMN on our ward. You would need to have excellent risk assessing and care planning abilities.
The ability to work as part of a team with (MDT) Drs, Manager, Pharmacy, OTs, Physio, Psychologists and healthcare support workers to provide Multi-disciplinary care plans and maintain service user safety.
Work as an advocate for our service users speaking up for their care, offering dignity and respect, also encouraging our services users to be a part of decision making and maintain independence.
Have excellent communication skills and ability to use IT skills. As our medication administration regime is now via computer software and also service user documentation is computerised.
Stay up-to-date on mandatory trainings and revalidation.

Band 5 nurses contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by:
Using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services assafe as possible.
Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary
Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who useour service.
Being open and transparent about their own practiceSupervising the work of others.
Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made
Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement
Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records
Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training requirements
The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses and all nurses, including Band 5 nurses, are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
We as a team; we undertake quality improvement projects to improve our service users safety and delivery of continuing care.
Our trust provides excellent access to additional training opportunities and to gain more knowledge.
Education and Qualifications
Essential: - NMC Registered Nurse Mental Health; - Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
Desirable: - Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development
Previous Experience
Essential: - You need previous experience of working in the mental health services either as a band 5 nurse, a student nurse or health care assistant.
Desirable: - Experience working as a RMN in Older Adults Mental Health and /or a Mental Health clinical setting
