The Workforce and Organisational Development Directorate delivers a wide range of HR transactional services to South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, plus two Subsidiary Companies, and our Recruitment Services Team is at the centre of ensuring the very best staff are recruited to deliver high quality care to our patients / service users.
As a Recruitment Services Officer you will
- Support Trust and subsidiary company recruitment campaigns by advertising vacancies through NHS Jobs and if required other external websites / publications.
- Manage recruitment administration from advert to appointment.
- Process pre-employment checks including references, DBS checks, right to work verification ensuring compliance with NHS Employment Check Standards.
- Issue conditional offers and contracts of employment.
- Provide advice and support to recruiting managers and applicants throughout the recruitment process.
- Maintain accurate employee records ensuring data quality across ESR and other recruitment systems.
- Monitor recruitment activity against agreed timescales and proactively identify and resolve delays.
- Support recruitment events and targeted recruitment campaigns.
- Work collaboratively with HR colleagues and other departments to deliver an excellent customer experience.
The role may also include occasional support to Trust Headquarters Reception and assisting other areas within Employee Services when required.

Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of confidentiality and information governance requirements
- Basic knowledge and understanding of employment best practice and legislation
- Ability to communicate sensitive or contentious information in a means that fosters constructive relationships and co-operation with customers
- Demonstrable written communication skills to enable effective conveying of information to internal and external customers
- Keyboard skills.
- Capable of using initiative and making judgements without referral where appropriate
Experience
Essential
- Previous experience of working in an administrative role
- Managing a diverse workload
- Using electronic office systems
- Working in a busy team providing a service to internal and external customers
Desirable
- Experience of working in a recruitment/HR environment
- NHS administrative experience
- Experience of using ESR
- Establishing new office systems and procedures
Physical Skills
Essential
- Ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines and cope with several tasks at once
- Ability to pay attention to detail
- Ability to concentrate on data handling, checking and reconciling information on a daily basis
- Ability to concentrate, sometimes for prolonged periods, when entering data into relevant systems
- Ability to understand, calculate and articulate numerical solutions to a range of people
- Adaptable and flexible approach to working across the HR Department in a variety of settings
- Flexible approach to working hours
- Ability to adapt to changing workload
Qualifications
Essential
- Possess a NVQ 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject OR possess NVQ 2 or equivalent in a relevant subject with extensive office experience OR possess NVQ 2 or equivalent in a relevant subject and the willingness to undertake level 3 study in this role
Desirable
- Foundation Certificate in People Practice or equivalent
- Knowledge of NHS terms and conditions of employment
