Job description
Elmwood Family Doctors is a large, forward-thinking GP practice serving our local community across two sites in Holmfirth and Meltham. We are looking ...
The role involves supporting patients with their enquiries, booking appointments, and signposting them to the most appropriate services. This is predominantly carried out over the telephone, alongside providing a welcoming and professional face-to-face service at the reception desk. Successful candidates will spend part of each shift working within our dedicated telephone team, supported by friendly colleagues and ongoing training. Strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.
The role also includes a variety of administrative tasks. While full training will be provided, good IT skills are essential, and previous administrative experience would be advantageous.
We are looking for someone who is approachable, organised and motivated, with excellent communication skills and a positive team-focused attitude. Experience in a similar role within the NHS or healthcare setting would be beneficial, but is not essential.
The role involves supporting the delivery of a high-quality GP service by acting as a first point of contact for patients and visitors. You will provide a friendly, efficient and accurate service, assisting with appointment booking, patient enquiries and a range of administrative duties.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Welcoming patients and handling enquiries at the reception desk
- Responding to telephone enquiries and directing patients to the most appropriate service
- Booking and managing patient appointments
- Using clinical IT systems (including SystmOne) to carry out administrative tasks such as patient registrations, updating records, and scanning correspondence into digital records
- Processing, repeat prescriptions and clinical information
- Supporting clinical staff, including chaperoning patients where appropriate
- Maintaining clinical areas, including re-stocking rooms
Hours and Location
This is a part-time role worked over a 3-day shift pattern, with shifts scheduled across the week to meet the needs of the service.
The role is based across both of our sites in Holmfirth and Meltham, and staff are required to work flexibly between the two locations. This provides the opportunity to work closely with a wide range of colleagues and patients, and to develop a varied and rewarding role.
Due to the nature of the role and the importance of teamwork and patient interaction, this position is fully on-site. The successful candidate may need to be able to travel between both sites.
Elmwood Family Doctors is a large, modern GP practice with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality patient care. Rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, we are proud to provide exceptional NHS services to our local community.
We operate across two sites in Huddersfieldour main practice at Holmfirth, which offers excellent facilities and a wide range of clinical services, and our Meltham surgery, which is based in the heart of the local village community. Together, we support a growing patient population of approximately 15,500 patients across both sites.
As a practice, we offer a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including routine and urgent care and access to a wide multidisciplinary team.
Our team is committed to delivering a consistently caring, courteous and professional service, particularly during busy periods or when patients may feel anxious or in need of additional support.
