As a Pulmonary
Rehabilitation Technical Instructor, you'll support the safe and effective
delivery of face-to-face and virtual pulmonary rehabilitation across
South and South East Staffordshire.
You'll deliver and
support group exercise, education and advice sessions, help patients build
confidence in managing their respiratory conditions, monitor progress and
complete outcome measures. You'll also provide responsive patient communication
and essential administrative support to the wider multidisciplinary team.
You'll need to be
confident working independently within agreed competencies and protocols, while
knowing when to ask for help or escalate concerns. You'll communicate with
patients, carers, colleagues and partner services with empathy, professionalism
and respect.

This role is Monday
only, with the potential for additional bank hours depending on service
Why
am I here? (Purpose)
To support the safe, effective delivery of face-to-face and virtual
pulmonary rehabilitation across South and South East Staffordshire, helping
people with respiratory conditions improve their health and self-management
while providing responsive patient communication and essential administrative
support to the multidisciplinary team.
What
am I aiming to achieve? (Outcomes)
- Deliver safe, effective face-to-face and virtual
pulmonary rehabilitation in line with agreed plans, protocols and competencies.
- Support patients to improve their health
wellbeing and confidence in self-managing respiratory conditions.
- Monitor progress and accurately complete outcome
measures, patient feedback and pre- and post-programme assessments.
- Maintain timely, accurate clinical records
correspondence, referrals, appointments, discharges and audit data.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with
patients, carers, colleagues and partner services while protecting
confidentiality, dignity and safety.
Any reasonable duties shall
be undertaken to achieve the above.
How
I will know I have succeeded? (Success Measures)
- Pulmonary rehabilitation sessions are delivered
safely, consistently and within agreed protocols, competencies and delegated
plans.
- Patients complete pre- and post-programme
assessments and demonstrate measurable progress, including relevant outcome
measures and MCID reporting.
- Patients receive clear advice and motivational
support that improves confidence in self-care and management of respiratory
conditions.
- Clinical records, appointments, referrals
discharges, correspondence and audit data are accurate, complete and timely.
- Patient feedback and programme audit information
are captured and used to evaluate and improve service delivery.
- Communication with
patients, carers, colleagues and partner services is responsive, respectful,
confidential and adapted to individual needs.
What
will I do? (Responsibilities)
- Implement delegated pulmonary rehabilitation
plans under indirect supervision, working within agreed competencies, protocols
and professional boundaries.
- Lead and assist face-to-face and virtual group
exercise, education and advice sessions, making minor protocol-based
adjustments and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Monitor patient progress, complete pre- and
post-programme clinical outcome measures and PROMs, and report findings to the
registered practitioner and GP as required.
- Use motivational approaches to support
self-care, self-management, health and wellbeing for individuals and groups.
- Act as a first point of contact, respond
sensitively to enquiries, record messages and arrange face-to-face or virtual
assessments and consultations.
- Use the Spirit clinical information system to
retrieve information, manage referrals, tasks and discharges, and produce and
send correspondence.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous written and
electronic clinical records and share information appropriately with relevant
professionals.
- Capture patient evaluations, process statistics
and contribute to local and national pulmonary rehabilitation audits and
service evaluation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers
colleagues and partner organisations, adapting methods to overcome barriers to
understanding.
- Protect privacy, dignity, consent
confidentiality and data protection, and contribute to safeguarding, clinical
risk management and incident review.
- Organise and prioritise the delegated workload
maintain quality, participate in supervision, mandatory training, CPD and
shared learning, and remain within own competency.
- Maintain awareness of
relevant pulmonary rehabilitation and respiratory standards, guidelines and
evidence-based practice.

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE-level English and Maths, or equivalent, plus an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant fieldor willingness to work towards this.
Experience
Essential
- Health and social care experience - Experience working and communicating with adults and the public in a health or social care setting, ideally including community-based work.
- Rehabilitation knowledge - An understanding of rehabilitation and reablement, with an interest in respiratory care and awareness of the needs of people with cardiorespiratory conditions.
- Group and team working - Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team and teaching, instructing or supporting individuals and groups, both face to face and virtually.
- Communication skills - Clear, sensitive written, verbal and electronic communication, with the ability to adapt approaches to different needs and overcome barriers to understanding.
- Digital and administrative skills - IT literacy and the ability to maintain accurate clinical records, manage referrals, appointments, correspondence, discharges, audit information and clinical-system tasks.
- Organisation and judgement - Ability to prioritise delegated work, follow protocols, work within agreed competencies, recognise changes or risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Governance knowledge - Understanding of confidentiality, data protection, consent, safeguarding, dignity, clinical risk and contemporaneous record keeping.
- Motivational and interpersonal skills - Ability to encourage self-management and behaviour change using empathy, professionalism and a person-centred approach.
- Personal qualities - Positive, resilient, accountable and committed to supervision, mandatory training, continuing professional development and continuous improvement.
- Mobility - Ability to travel between service locations across South and South East Staffordshire; a driving licence and access to a vehicle may be required.
