Job description

Are you passionate about supporting children to thrive, grow in confidence and reach their full potential?

We're looking for an enthusiastic, caring and dedicated Mental Health Support Assistant to join an inspiring specialist school in Oxford. The role is to start ASAP and is full time!

This is so much more than a classroom support role! You'll be joining a specialist setting that supports children with a range of learning needs, autism, communication difficulties and social, emotional and mental health needs.

The school boasts fantastic facilities designed to support students' sensory needs, promote emotional regulation and create a positive, inclusive learning environment. From sensory spaces to engaging, practical lessons that develop essential life skills, the school is committed to helping every student build independence, confidence and the skills they need for the future.

  • Supporting learning: Working alongside teachers to create a positive, engaging and supportive classroom environment where every child can participate and succeed.
  • Facilitating interventions: Supporting and delivering targeted interventions to develop communication, emotional regulation, social skills, independence and wellbeing.
  • Promoting mental health and wellbeing: Helping students feel safe, understood and supported, while encouraging positive behaviour and emotional resilience.
  • Celebrating progress: Recording students' progress, recognising achievements and sharing observations with the wider team to help shape their learning and development.

  • Caring, patient and passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • Understanding of autism, additional learning needs, communication differences and the importance of individualised support - or eager to develop their knowledge.
  • Creative, enthusiastic and ready to get involved in all aspects of school life!

Experience in a specialist school, mental health, SEND, care or support work would be advantageous, but the right attitude, compassion and willingness to learn are just as important.
