Undertake appropriate clinical assessments and observations. Provide wound care, dressings and wound assessment. Undertake suture and clip removal. Provide cervical screening in accordance with the NHS Cervical Screening Programme, where appropriately trained. Administer vaccinations and immunisations in accordance with current guidance, Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and practice protocols. Provide childhood immunisations where appropriately trained and competent. Administer seasonal influenza, COVID-19 and other vaccination programmes as required. Provide travel health advice and NHS travel vaccinations within the scope of the practice service and the nurse's competence. Undertake blood pressure monitoring and other routine clinical observations. Perform ECGs where required and appropriately trained. Undertake urinalysis and other appropriate point-of-care testing. Provide injections and other treatments in accordance with prescriptions, PGDs and practice protocols. Recognise deterioration or urgent clinical concerns and escalate appropriately

Depending on training and competency, the Practice Nurse may undertake reviews and monitoring for patients with long-term conditions, including: Asthma COPD 1Diabetes Cardiovascular disease Hypertension Other chronic conditions as agreed with the clinical team.

Dr A Sulakshana & Partners is a well-established NHS GP practice providing primary care services across two sites: Barton Surgery in Barton-le-Clay and Gooseberry Hill Surgery in Luton.

We provide high-quality, patient-centred care to a diverse population, covering both rural communities around Barton-le-Clay and patients in North Luton. Our multidisciplinary team includes GP Partners, salaried GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, a phlebotomist, dispensary staff, reception and administrative teams. We also work closely with other healthcare professionals through our Primary Care Network.

Our Barton site includes a dispensary serving eligible patients from the surrounding villages, and the practice provides a broad range of general medical, preventative and enhanced services.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a Registered Nurse
  • Ability to work autonomously within professional competence
  • Experience of providing safe, patient-centred care
  • Ability to recognise deterioration and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Experience of maintaining accurate clinical records

  • Chronic disease management, including asthma, COPD and diabetes

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Appropriate clinical training relevant to General Practice
  • Commitment to maintaining professional competence and mandatory training

Desirable

  • Practice Nurse qualification or previous General Practice nursing experience
  • Cervical Cytology / Sample Taker training
  • Immunisation and Vaccination qualification
  • Chronic Disease Management training
  • Family Planning / Sexual Health qualification
  • Travel Health training
  • Wound Care qualification
  • Independent or Supplementary Prescribing qualification
