Physician Associate (NASU)

The Physician Associate supports a team of Consultants, Registrars, nursing staff and therapists of the Neurology and Stroke Unit (NASU). They will be trained to assess and examine patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend treatment.

The role involves being a vital member of the NASU team, helping with assessment, diagnosis and management of neurology and stroke patients on the NASU unit, Ward 34.

Supervision will be under the direction and guidance of Consultants. The post holder will play an important part in supporting medical staff on ward 34.

This involves supporting the on-call consultant with daily ward rounds, neurology and stroke referrals and assisting with hyperacute stroke management. This includes assisting in assessing and help treat patients with reperfusion treatment like thrombolysis

There is a requirement to recognise and understand the importance of the multi-disciplinary team in management of patients for rehabilitation, discharge home or palliative care as needed.

The post-holder will be accountable for ensuring that patient care is of a high standard at all times. The post holder will develop expertise in managing at stroke follow up under consultant supervision.

The post-holder will be supervised by consultants with an identified educational supervisor for career development.

At present the role is designed around normal working hours, but if required the physician associate will provide clinical care as directed including weekends and out of hours.
