The following are the core responsibilities of
the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other
tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing
Levels
Obtaining
patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
Performing
venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
Maintaining
accurate patient records on System1
The
correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Effective
use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
Ensuring
samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Maintaining
an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at
In addition to the primary responsibilities,
The Phlebotomist may be requested to
Participate
in practice audit as directed by the audit lead.
Participate
in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
Support
and participate in shared learning within the practice
Working
collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for
patient related matters
An opportunity for a phlebotomist to join our team at Auckland Medical GroupKey Skills and Experience Required:
- Phlebotomist with up-to-date phlebotomy skills
- Able to process blood samples, using Systm1 (Training provided)
- IT Skills (moderate)Communication The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

- Recognise people's needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly. Contribution to the implementation of services.

They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
- Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data
- The surgery is open Monday - Friday 8:00am - 18:00pm
- The successful candidates working hours will be 4 mornings from 8am until 1pm.
Auckland Medical Group is a busy/teaching practice with over 16000 patients based over 3 sites. We have 7 partners, 2 salaried GPs, 4 nurse practitioners, 8 practice nurse, 1 nursing associates, 3 HCA and an excellent admin and receptionist team.

Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant qualification in venepuncture
- Good standard of general education
Desirable
- Qualified to NVQ level 3
- Knowledge of Systm 1
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with the general public
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Excellent communication skills
- Good telephone manner
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Effective time management
- Flexible and cooperative
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a primary care environment
- Competent in the use of office and outlook
