Band 5 Pharmacy Technician - Powys

Our client is a respected NHS Health Board in Powys, committed to delivering high-quality patient care and medicines optimisation services across a range of inpatient settings. Pharmacy Technicians play a vital role within the multidisciplinary team, supporting the safe and effective use of medicines, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring seamless medicines management throughout the patient journey. Role Description This is a Locum Pharmacy Technician (Band 5) role based on-site across multiple NHS sites in Powys. The successful candidate will work primarily within ward environments, supporting medical wards, care of the elderly wards, and providing in-reach support to older adult mental health wards. The role focuses on medicines optimisation, medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, and ensuring the safe and effective management of medicines for patients across inpatient services. Start Date: ASAP Duration: Funding currently approved until 31/10/2026 Hours: 37.5 hours per week (1 WTE) Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 7.5-hour days, with flexibility between 8:00am and 6:00pm. No weekend or on-call commitments. Daily responsibilities will include undertaking accurate medicines reconciliation, assessing and managing patients' own drugs, supporting medicines discharge processes, and working closely with ward teams to optimise medicines use. The successful candidate will also provide supervision and support to Pharmacy Assistant staff and contribute to service improvements where appropriate. The Pharmacy Technician will work collaboratively with pharmacists, nursing staff, medical teams, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred pharmaceutical care. Accurate documentation and adherence to NHS policies, medicines management procedures, and clinical governance standards will form an essential part of the role. The Trust is currently implementing an Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA) system using BetterMeds. Previous experience with BetterMeds would be advantageous but is not essential, as training can be provided. The role requires travel across multiple sites within Powys. A personal vehicle is essential, and mileage and travel time to sites away from the nominated base will be reimbursed in line with NHS terms and conditions. Qualifications & Requirements

Hold current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.Right to work in the UK is essential.Hold a valid Medicines Management Accreditation.Demonstrate the ability to independently and accurately undertake medicines reconciliation and patients' own drugs assessments.Experience managing medicines discharge processes within a hospital setting.Experience supervising or supporting Pharmacy Assistant staff.Enhanced DBS check (Adults) required, or willingness to obtain one.Previous NHS hospital experience is highly desirable.Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) status is desirable but not essential.Knowledge of medicines optimisation and clinical governance requirements within the NHS.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Strong organisational, documentation, and time-management skills.Experience using ePMA systems, particularly BetterMeds, would be beneficial but is not essential.Full UK driving licence and access to a personal vehicle are essential due to cross-site working requirements.
