An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Paediatric Diabetes service at UHDB for a permanent Band 6 Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse. We are look...
You will provide specialist training across acute and community settings.
You will ensure the delivery of agreed professional standards of care within diabetes across the Trust and out in the community.
You will work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the assessment, management and evaluation of treatment and care for a caseload of children & young people aged 0-19 years with diabetes
You will co-ordinate and implement evidence-based care for the caseload of patients and lead Nurse-led clinics as part of an overarching treatment plan with the Multidisciplinary Team
You will be a highly visible and accessible resource within the clinical setting at UHDB.
You will be an active member of the clinical multidisciplinary team and deliver a safe, effective, responsive, caring and well-led service where compassion is embedded and a positive patient experience is achieved
You will act as a professional role model.
You will work across organisational and professional boundaries, including working collaboratively with health care professionals in the community
You will act as an expert resource in Paediatric Diabetes with extensive specialist knowledge and clinical expertise to be an effective educator for health care professionals.Closing date of applications: 6 September 2026Interview date: 22 September 2026

Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements:
Essential
- NMC registration & revalidation requirements
- Be willing to complete/have completed the Diabetes Course
- Post registration experience at Band 5 or 6 level
Desirable
- Evidence of degree / working towards higher degree or equivalent experience
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
- Experience of mentoring, supporting, coaching and developing staff
- Experience of autonomous decision making
Desirable
- Specific knowledge of the clinical area / speciality
- Evidence of teaching/nurturing
Skills and Ability
Essential
- Takes responsibility and is accountable for all delegated nursing care within the team
- Manages the clinical workload, prioritising and reprioritising

- Work across division during unit cover
- Fully competent and trained in the use of Insulin Pump Therapy and Advanced Technologies
