Orthotist

As an HCPC-registered clinician within Opcare, you will competently and confidently assess, prescribe, and fit orthotic and/or prosthetic devices for routine patient presentations, across a range of clinical settings. You will work autonomously within your scope of practice to manage appropriate interventions, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care. In addition to direct clinical responsibilities, you will actively contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives under guidance. In addition, you will support the professional development, mentorship, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate colleagues. All activities will be undertaken in line with NHS values and Opcares commitment to innovation and excellence in patient care.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Engages in continuous professional development through self-directed study, literature review and participation in relevant training.

Contributes to audits, service evaluations and research activities with guidance as needed, supporting data collection and reflective learning.

Manages clinical equipment and resources responsibly, with awareness of cost-effectiveness and service sustainability.

Adheres to clinical prescription guidelines to ensure safe, effective and appropriate patient care.

Effectively plans and prioritises caseload to meet service delivery targets, managing time and multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic clinical environment.

Mentors less experienced staff, supports student and apprentice placements and actively participates in training and team learning.

Maintains accurate clinical records and contributes to audits and quality improvement initiatives to support safe, effective and continuously evolving patient care.

Maintains mandatory training, adheres to policies and procedures and works collaboratively within the team.

Skills and Personal Attributes

Essential

Highly developed interpersonal skills including formal and informal communication

Proven record of working within an active, fast paced clinical environment

Experience of having collaborative role in an MDT environment

Working proactively and collaboratively in the team and wider trust

Interest in service development and/or evidence of involvement

Able to prioritise, plan and organise efficiently and work with multiple conflicting priorities.

Desirable

Experience with CAD/CAM or digital workflows.

Experience mentoring students or clinical staff.

Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and handle complex cases.

Essential

BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics & Orthotics or equivalent.

HCPC registered.

Completion of Opcares graduate structure (or similar)
