To provide leadership, specialist advice and Occupational Therapy interventions as part of the neurological rehabilitation services, working as a key ...

  • To use specialist skills to perform advanced assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical, cognitive, psychological and social needs.
  • To develop and deliver individualised treatment programme to patients with neurological conditions.
  • To hold responsibility for own caseload, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular reflective and clinical reasoning sessions.
  • To liaise with other Occupational Therapy and MDT colleagues to provide a flexible service during pressure times, due to workload or staffing difficulties.
  • To participate in the training and supervision of Junior Therapists and Assistants.
  • To work and liaise with external agencies as required

Education and Training

Essential

  • Occupational Therapy Degree
  • Current driving licence

Desirable

  • Post qualification training related to neurology
  • Accredited fieldwork educator
  • Membership of Specialist Section for Neurological Practice.

Knowldege

Essential

  • Basic theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, psychology, medicine and surgery
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of head injury and other neurological conditions.

Desirable

  • A working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act

Experience

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience within neuro, specifically traumatic brain injury
  • Extensive experience working with an MDT

Desirable

  • Experience of facilitating therapy groups
  • Experience of working with patients with significant psychological distress.
  • Experience of administering and analysing a variety of cognitive assessments.

Skills and Ability

Essential

  • Ability to use a risk assessment approach to maximise patients' function and safety
  • Planning and organisational skills to enable effective management of own patient workload

Desirable

  • To have experience of complex discharge planning including the DST process (or equivalent) and liaison with external agencies
