The successful candidate will
Provide visible, senior leadership and act as a role model for excellence in nursing practice.
Lead service development and pathway redesign, working collaboratively with consultants, nurses, and administrative colleagues to improve patient outcomes.
Drive clinical governance, audit, and compliance activities, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality.
Support and empower staff through supervision, appraisals, and education, fostering a culture of innovation, teamwork, and continuous professional development.
Work closely with the Matron, Leadership Team, and wider multidisciplinary colleagues to shape ophthalmology services and deliver person centred care.
We are seeking a nurse who is
- Passionate about advancing Ophthalmology care and delivering high quality, patient centred services.
- Skilled in strategic leadership, service redesign, and motivating teams to achieve excellence.
- Confident in managing complex outpatient environments and making autonomous clinical decisions.
- Committed to innovation, continuous learning, and embedding best practice across ophthalmology pathways.

Qualifications
Essential
- RNA NMC Registration
- Degree and / or an appropriate professional qualification
- Assessing and mentoring course
Desirable
- Relevant managerial course
Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience as a band 6 within an appropriate speciality.
- Experience of taking charge of a department.
- Experience of leading and managing a team of nurses.
- Previous experience of research and audit.
- Previous experience of change management and problem solving.
- Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints.
Knowledge
Essential
- Extensive speciality knowledge relevant to the department
- Understanding of professional and current issues in Ophthalmology and outpatient nursing.
- Understanding of audit and research Methodologies
- Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues
- Handling clinical incidents and complaints
- Awareness of equality and diversity
- Clinical Governance
- Good knowledge of computers
- Experience of co-ordinating multiple complex projects
- Expertise in project management, creation of project proposals and business case development.
