The postholder will work closely with the Skull Base Neurosurgery team to provide comprehensive administrative support to the Neurosurgery service. Th...

  • Support the Skull Base Neurosurgery team by managing patient admissions and scheduling in line with NHS standards and Trust policies.
  • Maintain elective and urgent waiting lists; add, remove and update patient details in accordance with the Trust Patient Access Policy.
  • Book and coordinate theatre lists, outpatient clinics, pre-operative assessments, diagnostic investigations and operation dates, ensuring accurate and timely PAS/EPR records.

To provide comprehensive administrative support to the Skullbase clinical teams, ensuring efficient patient admission, scheduling, and coordination of care in line with NHS Constitution, waiting time standards, and the Trusts Patient Access Policy. The role involves managing patient pathways, maintaining accurate records, and delivering a high standard of service to patients and staff.

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential: - Good general education including GSCE in Maths or English (or equivalent); - Advanced keyboard and computer skills (Microsoft office)

Desirable: - Patient Administration System (PAS) training

Work Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Experience of working under pressure
  • Ability to demonstrate customer or patient care skills

Desirable: - Experience in NHS or similar organisation; - Experience taking/making high volume calls and handling sensitive topics

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Excellent customer care skills
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines in a highly pressured environment
  • The ability to work under pressure, within a stressful environment, prioritise own workload and work to tight deadlines
  • The ability to work as part of a team or in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate with a broad range of individuals including clinicians
  • Willingness and ability to learn new IT skills and technology

Personal Qualities/Special Circumstances

Essential: - Confident and sympathetic when dealing with patients/staff; - Ability to be calm and professional when working under pressure
